Would you ever leave a meeting without agreeing next steps/action points?

I’m guessing the answer is no…. so why are you leaving your interviews this way?

Whatever your industry and your role – an interview is a sales meeting.

You are qualifying an opportunity to see whether it is something you want to pursue, whilst selling yourself and highlighting the value you can bring that position and business.

One of the most crucial points is how you end your interview.

I advise candidates to do the following:

  • Recap what you have learned about the company, the role and the opportunity
  • Sell back on how this matches your experience and aligns to the next steps in your career
  • Ask your interviewer(s) if they have any feedback or concerns at this stage if so, address this directly.
  • Close the meeting, ask for next steps and whether can you book these in now
  • Follow up with an email within 24 hours
